For K-12 Teachers in studies of the Holocaust, Character Education or Diversity
Teachers are the lifeblood of the future. They are seldom, if ever, recognized for their exceptional measures to provide the vital lessons of human rights to our students. This program recognizes teachers of Holocaust, Character Education, or Diversity issues.
The Distinguished Educator awards are presented to one full-time Georgia teacher from the elementary level (K-5), middle school level (6-8) and high school level (9-12) who demonstrate excellence and creativity in the development and presentation of lessons in the Holocaust, Character Education or Diversity. Eligible teachers are from public, private, charter, or parochial schools.
All three Georgia Power Award recipient will receive

Statewide recognition:
-
Earn a $1,000 cash award

Have their names placed on permanent Georgia Power plaques located at the Anne Frank in the World Exhibit and the Thomas B. Murphy Holocaust Teacher Training and Resource Center

Are recognized on the award flyer

Are listed on the website of the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust

Receive a plaque denoting Georgia Power and their name to hang in their school

Are presented their awards at the State Capitol of Georgia by representatives of Georgia Power

Winning lesson plans will be posted on the website. All other lesson plans will be accessible through the Murphy Teacher Training and Resource Center.

Lesson Plan
Please provide an original or adapted lesson plan that you have used in Microsoft Word format. Your submission should reflect your rationale and strategies for teaching the lesson to your students. The lesson plan must include measurable objectives, materials, procedures, and methods of assessment and impact on students using the Georgia Department of Educations Lesson Plan Template. If this is an adapted plan then you will also need to cite the original source. Please submit your entry on 3.5 disc or CD.
