Eva Schloss

NEA Grant for Theater Production and Art Exhibit

The Georgia State Legislature, The National Endowment for the Arts and other public and private sources funded this project.

The Georgia Commission on the Holocaust along with the Georgia Ensemble Theater presented a seven-city tour of James Still's play, And Then They Came For Me, including symposia with Holocaust survivor Eva Schloss, as well as a traveling exhibition of visual art produced by Georgia high school and middle school students.

The seven-city Georgia tour included: Carrollton, Columbus, Albany, Brunswick, Augusta, Jefferson, and Calhoun.

This project had a major impact on Georgia citizens in seven cities outside the metro-Atlanta area, including local school children, bused to see the play and walk through the art exhibit during the day performance, as well, as local parents and adults who attended the play and walked through the art exhibit during evening performances. The presence of Eva Schloss at each performance enhanced the experience of the play by having a Holocaust survivor, about whom the play was written, share with the audience and address questions from students and adults alike.

And Then They Came for Me: Remembering the World of Anne Frank

And Then They Came for Me is a play about two surviving friends of Anne Frank; Eva Schloss and Ed Silverberg, as they recount their World War II experiences. They tell their stories on video while actors portray these stories on stage. This production is an historical newsreel brought to life.
