2013

February 15, 2013 - White County
A trunk was presented at White County Middle School and is now available to all middle schools in the White and Habersham districts. Dr. Eugen Schoefeld, a Holocaust survivor, spoke to the entire student body and faculty about his experiences as a prisoner at Auschwitz, Warsaw, Dachau, and Muehldorf from 1944 to 1945. December 9, 2013 - Marietta

A trunk was presented at Smith Middle School and is now available to all middle schools in the Cobb County school district. Freda Goodman, second generation Holocaust Survivor, shared her parent's stories of survival. Goodman sponsored the trunk in memory of her parents Israel and Gisela Silberminz. December 10, 2013 - Atlanta

In the fall of 2013, the Consulate General of Canada in Atlanta partnered with the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust to promote Holocaust remembrance and education. To recognize this partnership the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust asked students of Westside Middle School in Winder, Georgia, to decorate a special trunk as part of the statewide Holocaust Learning Trunk Project. The trunk was unveiled by Consul General Stephen Brereton, Canadian Special Forces Sergeant Scott Walker, and International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance Chair Dr. Mario Silva on December 10th for "Remembering and Teaching the Holocaust in the 21st Century" at The Galloway School in Atlanta. The event was hosted by the Canadian Consulate General of Atlanta in partnership with the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust. Click here to read more.

November 29, 2012 - Atlanta
Mayor Kasim Reed launched a trunk at Jean Child Young Middle School in Atlanta on November 29th, 2012. The school was chosen by Mayor Reed and special guests included Senator Horacena Tate, Opher Aviran, Israeli Consul General to the Southeast, and Bill Nigut, Southeast Regional Director of the Anti-Defamation League. September 20, 2011 - Lee County
The Holocaust Learning Trunk Project launched in Lee County on Tuesday, September 20, 2011. The first trunk was presented to students at Lee County Middle School with special guest Representative Ed Rynders. Click here to read more.

The Georgia Commission on the Holocaust launched two trunks from the statewide Holocaust Learning Trunk Project at South Hall Middle School in Gainesville, Georgia. Special guests included Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle, Representative Carl Rodgers, and Senator Butch Miller.
