2020 Theme  - Holocaust Remembrance: The Responsibility to Speak Out

The 2020 Georgia Commission on the Holocaust Student Community Service Awards are given to recognize middle and high school students who are making significant contributions to their community through their time, actions and commitment.  Entries illustrate how students do not remain silent, passive or indifferent when confronted with bigotry or hate. They take appropriate action, advocate and assume the "Responsibility to Speak Out." Their actions reflect what it means to be a responsible American citizen.

Judging Criteria

50%  - Have the student's efforts made a lasting or meaningful contribution or impact on the community?
15%  - Does this student stand out, serving as a strong role model for others and engaging others in service?
25%  - How much time has this student spent in service?
10%  - Is the student's volunteer work recognized and valued by their peers and community leaders?

Awards

Middle School and High School
       First Place -       $200 gift certificate
       Second Place -   $100 gift certificate
       Thrid Place   -    $ 50 gift certificate

Presentation of Awards

The Student Award winners will be honored at the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust Days of Remembrance Ceremony on the morning of Friday, April 24 2020.  The ceremony takes place in the Georgia House of Representatives Chamber at the Georgia State Capitol.

Applications

The online application may be submitted between November 1, 2019 through March 1, 2020.
All applications must also include an online letter of recommendation by a teacher or community member.

Letter of Recommendation Form -- All applications must include a separate e-mailed Letter of Recommendation from a teacher, leader, advisor or supervisor from an organization for which you have provided volunteer service. The letter should include information about how you have made a difference in your community.  It must also include the submitter's name, relationship to the student and a contact phone number.
