Join us as we examine the life and writings of Anne Frank. June 12, 2017, marks her 88th birthday and the 75th anniversary of Anne receiving her diary.

Anne Frank was one of millions murdered during the Holocaust. Her story, recounted in her diary, is a lens for examining this period of history and the lessons it teaches.

The sheer number of Holocaust victims is difficult to comprehend. Personal stories, like Anne's, help portray the victims as real people instead of a number. Diaries written during the Holocaust give voices to the victims. These voices would otherwise have been lost.

On June 12, 1942, Anne celebrated her 13th birthday. Her father, Otto, gifted her an autograph book that she began using as a diary. A few weeks later, the Frank family went into hiding in a hidden apartment. Anne continued writing in her diary for over two years, until the family was discovered and arrested. She died 7 months later from typhus in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.
